Schools’ Challenge

The Education Business Partnership is once again organising the Schools’ Challenge at the Lincolnshire Show 2013.

Each year, schools are invited to take on the Schools’ Challenge. A range of challenges related to the countryside, environment and agriculture will be available to choose from. Challenges are designed to relate to popular educational themes and be easily integrated into a school’s curriculum.

Schools always produce fantastic displays for the two days of show ensuring the judges have a wonderfully enjoyable job of deciding who the champions should be.

The challenges are aligned with the Sustainable Schools Framework Doorways so there is something for every school to make the visit fun and educational. With limited places and schools coming back year on year to defend their titles you have to be quick to get a place, but we love seeing new faces and expert support is offered from the farming community to all those taking part.

There are categories for Primary, Secondary and Special Schools.

Participating schools receive 15 free student tickets (and accompanying adult tickets) to attend the show on 20 and 21 June 2012. Additional tickets were offered at a highly subsidised rate to enable other staff, pupils and parents to also come along, support their school and enjoy the Show.

School Visits

The Lincolnshire Show welcomes visits from schools on either day of the Show. For further information contact Suzy Stone 01522 574230, email suzy.stone@eblo.org.uk.

There is so much to do at the Show, including visiting the livestock area and learning about the native and continental breeds of cattle, sheep and pigs, looking around the Food Court at the locally sourced and produced foods and visiting the Discovery Zone. You can spend time in the Countryside Area watching the displays of falconry and pig racing or watch the fast-paced show jumping and the fun had by the Young Farmers Clubs on their decorated trailers in the Main Ring.

Spring Lecture

Each year the Lincolnshire Agricultural Society’s Farm Lincs Education Committee organises a lecture which contributes to the charitable educational objectives of the Society to keep the local community informed on agricultural and environmental issues.

With well respected key note speakers invited to share their knowledge and discuss current agricultural affairs and recent developments the evening is both informative and a great social gathering.

All are welcome, with entry free to members of the Society (who can also bring two guests) and £10 for non members.

Construction Week

Charity Lincoln Group Training Association holds a Construction Week at the Lincolnshire Showground in October. Secondary schools across the county are invited and about 550 pupils take part during the three days. The aim is to give them hands-on experience of many of the career opportunities that the construction industry has to offer. The event is supported and subsidised by the Lincolnshire Agricultural Society as part of its policy to help events which fulfil its charitable objectives to raise awareness of environmental protection and sustainable development.

EPIC Tours

As the largest green-built events centre in the region, the EPIC Centre incorporates many different environmentally-aware technologies both old and new. Tours of the building are available to those who are embarking on similar construction projects. Email events@lincolnshireshowground.co.uk
