Plugins, Widgets and Dashboards

Amelia and Sarah ventured across the country on July 16th to Manchester to attend a WordPress web management course run by Pootlepress.

The journey started at Lincolnshire Events Centre at 6.30am, after negotiating rush hour traffic on the M62, they arrived at the Rain Bar in Manchester City Centre to start 6 hours of intense training on the WordPress content management system for the Society and Event Centre websites.

A very busy agenda was set, including words like plugins, widgets and dashboards, intriguing stuff indeed. With a variety of businesses around the table including an online chess board seller and a wine merchant, the day was set to be full of excitement and interest.

Learning how to put in place the structure of a website and populate the pages was the morning’s task, with dummy websites based on an imaginary adventure company, Amelia and Sarah soon got to grips with adding images and posting blogs.

After a well deserved lunch, the next task was looking at the design of the website and how you can enhance your search engine optimisation. Choosing themes that made the design much more user friendly was paramount. The course was excellent and gave both Amelia and Sarah a brilliant boost of knowledge and lots of exciting ideas of how to develop further the websites.

Look out for lots of new features and functions appearing on the Society and Events Centre websites soon.

Thanks to Jamie at Pootlepress for such an interesting day that went far too quickly.
